Welcome!
In the early 1960s Canada entered into the nuclear weapons role in support of the North Atlantic Treaty
Organization (NATO) and the need for Sentry Dog Handler Teams to protect these weapons during the
hours of darkness and periods of poor visibility was established. These Air Force / Military Policemen who
volunteered served with their dogs with dedication and distinction until the nuclear role ended in 1972.
Our history begins with the selection of the United States Air Force Europe (USAFE) Sentry Dog
Program as the RCAF model, with Canadian Military Policemen to be trained as Sentry Dog Handlers
and Kennel Masters at the USAF (E) Sentry Dog Handler Training Kassern in Wiesbaden, West Germany.
